I got a picatinny rail for my synth express super mag 870. I didn't take i account that its designed for a magnum model and for a different type of fore-end. I got the long one and of course when you pull it back it interferes with the saddle. That can be handled with some dremel or a shorter fore-end. Other thing is that because its probably for magnum, in super mag it covers bit of the shell ejection port (about 1 cm =.40"). Wonder if it will be a problem ejecting shells or should i dremel it bigger also.
Before I started grinding anything, I'd install it and see how it works as-is with different shell lengths. It might not need any modifications, so you would save yourself some time and effort. Or, if it does need to be tweaked, you'll probably have a better idea of what you have to do once you see exactly how it's interfering.
Or you could just cut your current fore-end shorter. Chop enough off the back end that it can't reach the rail mount, sand any sharp edges down a little, and reinstall it. Shouldn't take long with a table saw or even hand tools.
Well finally tested it a few weeks ago. Few stuck shells, so i think ill grind it to match the frame. Red dot sight worked great, heavy recoil of some slugs and 00 buckshot didnt affect it at all, being a cheap $15 sight, im pleased with it.
