Hi all,
Obviously new here and just wanted to check in with an introduction. Retired Deputy Sheriff with over 35 years service. I've fired a shotgun many times as a Deputy, but have owned only one long gun in my life, that being a very beat up 12 guage. I don't remember the mfg, and quite frankly, various parts rattled every time I fired it! I collect handguns and custom knives. I am looking for a SHTF shotgun, mainly because my wife wants one. She is also a retired LEO. She wants a pistol grip 12 guage ( with the grip being the farthest part back!) not as in a pistol grip design on a regular stock. And yes, she can handle a shotgun and is an expert shot with a handgun. I have recommended a Remington 870 in that configuration to her, as that was what I used as a Deputy, and always liked it.
Anyway..I hope to take part in this forum on a fairly regular basis.
Cheers,
Unkei

Welcome to the forum Unkei, and thank you and your wife for your service behind the badge. That doesn't get said enough. It's a rough job and not everyone can do it.
You made and excellent recommendation to your wife about the 870 for an HD weapon. I couldn't agree more. Remington has a new model Express which comes with a pistol grip like you discribe and the one piece extended magazine and a door breach adapter. It is model #81193. It takes all the same accesories as any othe 870 so she can bling it out as she sees fit.
Welcome again, and we look forward to sharing the forum with you.

Re: Hello from Ohio
Those newer Express Tacticals are good guns if you need a simple and reliable HD piece, but the downside is that with that long magazine tube, they can't accept other 870 barrels.

If you want a prepper/SHTF shotgun, you might want to consider an 870 with a standard receiver instead. You can use a magazine extension to achieve whatever capacity you want in a defensive/combat build, and you'll be able to swap barrels and use the same gun as an all-around hunting/survival piece.
