I installed the 2 shot mag extension onto my 870 police 18.5 barrel.
Sometimes (40%) of the time i can't get the extra two rounds in the tube because it binds somehow...probably where the extension meets the original tube.
I know there is some easy way to fix this right?
Also, I can fit 7 shells in the mag (assuming no hangups) but just barely. the 7th shell has no extra play at all. Is this bad for the spring or otherwise? should I only be putting 6 in the tube?
Thanks!

This is a Remington factory extension, right? Those extensions can be finicky if you don't install them properly. Install the coupling by itself first, then insert the magazine spring and thread the extension tube into the coupling. The key is to make sure the magazine & extension tubes are butted directly against each other inside the coupling. Otherwise, there'll be a gap that can cause the follower to hang up.
As for capacity, it's all about the crimped length of the shells you're using. When you have a bunch of shells lined up end-to-end, even minor differences in individual crimped length can add up and affect a one-shell increase or decrease in capacity with the same total available tube space.
Also, make sure you have the right bracket for your particular barrel. If it's the wrong one, it could be pulling the extension tube out of alignment.

I believe it`s not recommended to fill up the tube so much that you squeeze the actual magazine spring together. It can cause the spring to bind itself in the coils and cause feeding issues. The tail on the more serious tubular magazine tube followers is solely designed to prevent this.

Actually, the bracket groove in the Remington extensions also serves to stop the follower before the spring can become overly-compressed. So unless you're using an aftermarket follower with a solid body, you should be fine loading whatever'll fit.
