New kid in town... well, actually an old fart :)

Howdy folks,

I've been lurkin' about for about a year now, figured it was time to say hello.

I'm an old boy livin' in the free state of Wyoming. Did a stint in the military during the early '70s and law enforcement through the '80s. Hunter, shooter and survivalist... long before it became popular.

Shotguns have never been my favourite arm but there's no denying their efficacy in a world gone crazy scenario. And even here in Wyoming violent crime is on the rise. Sad state of affairs.

Hadn't worked with the scatterguns much since I left law enforcement but a couple years ago I decided I'd better get back up to speed and add one to my tool kit.

As luck would have it I won an base model Remington Express in an Elk's Lodge pot luck drawing. Went to work on it to shape it into the tool I felt I needed. Vitaly's excellent works were very useful as was my time studying this site. A tip o' the hat to y'all for that.

I finished my shotgun a while ago and have spent a good deal of time makin' holes in things out in the prairie. Kinda likin' this shotgun stuff Still have friends in law enforcement whom managed to include me in a few training events. Good stuff, helped me decide just how I wanted to finalize my personal shooter.

I'm still primarily a handgun fellow when it comes to personal and home defense but I'm very glad to have the 870 in my kit and set-up for my particular application and needs.

Kudos to those responsible for this site and thanks for havin' me.

Welcome to the forum.

There's no denying the advantages of a handgun in personal and home defense. It may not have anywhere near the stopping power of a shotgun, but it's much smaller, more maneuverable, easier to conceal, and you can effectively wield them one-handed if necessary. I strongly believe in having both a quality handgun and a long gun for home defense; the handgun for when you have to move around, and the long gun for when you need to dig in and let the intruder come to you.
