1982 Wingmaster 870 TB

Post by Loofa » Thu Jul 30, 2020 6:03 am

My grandfather left me a 1982 Wingmaster 870 TB, it's in fantastic shape and its a beautiful shotgun but I really would prefer a 870 for HD. Is it too much of a tragedy to convert it?

Yes it would be. If you don’t want it, sell it to someone who does and buy something else. I have a TC Trap.

Convert it. They make the best HD guns! Older Wingmasters are primarily what I use.

did your grandfather use it much? if so it would be kind of a legacy family thing. I have my grandfathers 1920 Parker Bros shotgun. I can't imagine cutting up or selling my grandfathers gun. just sayin.

Hell yes. The 80's were classic era Wingmasters and they don't make 'em like that anymore, and may never again. Go find a cheap Express to use as the basis for a HD shotgun.

I'd look for a Police Model trade-in from law enforcement. Once you add in the costs of a new barrel, mag extension, and new furniture you are about 80% or more there anyway  . Lots also already have ghost ring or rifle sights.

Little used but ugly so you don't feel bad when knocking it around while training with it.

For most an Express will be fine but the Police has some nice upgrades. Worth looking into.

On the other hand prices have jumped for anything "HD" so used may not be as much as a bargain.

Keep it as such, and pass it down when it's your time to shed your mortal coil. You can pick up an uber-reliable dedicated HD shottie for very little money and save that Wingmaster as a family heirloom. Prices have actually gone down at my local walmart on shotguns.
