The Remington 870 shotgun is one of the most loved and adored shotgun models in the world. Although there are multiple versions of the Remington 870 available, nothing beats the design of the classic 870 models. That is why the restoration of these older Remington 870 is essential in order to preserve their high-quality design and functionality. The two biggest flaws you’ll find with an old Remington 870 is rust and damage to the exterior and interior. Rust generally accumulates on the metal components of the weapon because the previous owner failed to lubricate the weapon on a regular basis to maintain it. More than likely, a Remington 870 in this condition has not been fired in many years. And if there is damage to the weapon, it could be old damage which somebody caused and then just discarded the shotgun because they didn’t want to bother fixing it.

This post will show new shotgunners how to use proper sight alignment and sight picture.
This info can be applied to shotguns when shooting slugs:
“Rifle Sight Alignment. Alignment of the rifle with the target is critical. It involves placing the tip of the front sight post in the center of the rear sight aperture. Any alignment error between the front and rear sights repeats itself for every 1/2 meter the bullet travels. For example, at the 25-meter line, any error in rifle alignment is multiplied 50 times. If the bullet is misaligned by 1/10 inch, it causes a target at 300 meters to be missed by 5 feet.” – Four Fundamentals of Marksmanship
Sight Alignment
Shooter needs to line up front and rear sight vertically and horizontally. Top of the front sight is level with the top of the rear sight, front sight should be centered in the rear sight notch. There should be an equal amount of space on either side of the front sight.
Focus
Focus must be one the front sight, not on the target, not on the rear sight but on the front sight. Target and rear sight are blurred.
Please note that when you are shooting at moving targets like birds or clays, focus is different, focus is on target, sights blurred.
Dry fire drills
Dry fire drills will help you to master the proper sight alignment and focus.

I care about gun safety and do all possible to make our community safer. You can download my FREE Gun Safety Guide in PDF format, as you know. But I understand that some people don’t have time to read books, so I wanted something simple that you can print out and give to newbies or friends.
Synchronizor posted very useful picture on Remington 870 Forum:
They look similar, and both are conversion coatings, but they’re completely different chemically. Bluing forms a layer of black iron oxide, while Parkerizing forms a layer of metal phosphate (different metals can be used, I’m not sure what Remington uses). I have both matte blued and Parkerized parts for my 870, and there’s a slight, but noticeable difference in appearance between the two finishes.
This is step by step instruction on how to paint your Remington 870 using Gun Kote:
The key to success to competition shooter is to never stop and try new drills, different stances and of course to experiment with equipment.
Benelli Supernova is a great shotgun but it has some things which can be improved. One of such things is slippery forend. It has groves but plastic is slippery, I wish I could get Hogue overmolded forend for my Benelli Supernova, I miss it so much.
By the way, this is one of things why I love my Rem 870, you can choose from hundreds of upgrades! Accessories for other shotguns are very limited.
