Pawn Shop Wingmaster find
Located a 12-gauge 2-3/4" Wingmaster this morning with 20" rifle sight cylinder bore barrel attached at a pawn shop I frequent. Very beat up "Police Model" wood. Comes with a 28" plain barrel as well. The bore on the 20" was filthy, but I was allowed to brush it out and get it relatively clean. There appears to be some light bore pitting about midway of the barrel, but that could be polished out I'm thinking? The 28" barrels bore is perfect. There is a pitted rust spot about 3/4 the size of a dime on the muzzle end of the 20", but does not enter the barrel as it is shiny there. Also on it is a scope base which attaches to the receiver by two screws which replaced the trigger group pins(would have to get replacement pins). The scope appears to be a low powered Weaver, but I was unable to find any markings during the inspection. I'm not interested in the base, rings or scope. The deal is $300 without the scope. I'm giving it serious consideration depending upon what the receiver looks like under the scope mount. The wood, especially the forend is not in very good condition as stated and I would replace it with possibly a set of like new Express take off furniture I have...I know, I know, but for utility work it's fine and I prefer full length forends. The overall exterior metal looks very good in spite of needing a good cleaning and oiling. The sights are in great shape and not dinged up or bent. I can even deal with the muzzle rust spot issue as I can wet sand it and Oxpho blue it. They are holding it for me until Friday as the owner wasn't there and I can usually deal with him for some additional $ off! If I can get into for say $250 to $275 I'll buy it...especially after I "pick" it apart some more!:) Should make a nice addition to my other 6 HD 870's!!

If you think it is a good deal jump on it. I would say 250 would be fare. 300 sound a little high for the condition.

Re: Pawn Shop Wingmaster find
Bought the Wingmaster, as well as another Express Magnum with wood furniture and 26" barrel. $425 out the door for both of them. I removed the receiver mounted scope base and scope and replaced the trigger group pins on the Wingmaster. I replaced the furniture on both with less beat up birch Police model furniture. Still deciding if I'm going to Dura Coat the wood or replace it with new Express wood on both. I like the utility look of the Express wood and the longer forend as well, but that's just me. Replaced the Express Magnum barrel with an early( green) Express 20" 2-3/4" or 3" cylinder bore with rifle sights. I'll probably have this shotgun parkerized as the finish on the receiver is very thin. Complete tear down and cleaning will take place tomorrow at some point. Other than the dime size blemish on the 20" rifle sight Wingmaster barrel located near the muzzle, the metal is in otherwise excellent condition. I've started working on the spot already and have it close to cold bluing. This ups the count to eight 870 HD shotguns...which doesn't include the 2 my boys have or the 20 gauge youth of my wife's!:-) Yes...I know I have a problem!!

Me too Synchcronizor....I don't drink much to speak of...don't chase women or smoke! Gave up smokeless tobacco about 5 years ago. My hobbies are my wife and two boys...firearms, knives, bushcrafting, recurve bows, hunting, fishing, trapping and falconry. I'm currently working with a Red Tail hawk I trapped several months ago and it is free flying and hunting very well. One of the best I've worked with actually and a beautiful bird. I like Owl's as well and have at least two resident Barred Owl's on my place. My boys and I have built nesting houses for them out of milled river cypress. We like it out here in the woods....my 870's make me sleep better at night too!:-)
