870 Special

Post by Ks4379 »

I need assistance in determining what type of “Special” I have. It has a 20.5” vent rib barrel. Satin finish on metal. Does not have a straight grip butt stock. Wood is checkered walnut. Barrel letters are AJ. Receiver is marked Remington Model 870 Special. Prefix is “W and suffix is “M” on the serial #.

No idea here. Sounds bad-ass though.

Just guessing here, but it could be one manufactured way back in the day for police or military use. Newer versions for police and military are synthetic. Looks good, though.

Congrats on the nice 870 Special and welcome to the forum.

The "Special" designation was for upland game Special Field model.

Looks like this is a new version for the police and military (not sure though).
