Police Magnum Ghost Ring Sight Parts

Post by kwb377 »

I recently picked up a 90's-vintage Police Magnum with the factory Iron Sight Gun Works ghost-ring sights. Once I got it home, I noticed that the elevation tension spring and the ball detent and spring for the adjustment screw were missing.

I tried a Google search for Iron Sight Gun Works with no luck (I'm guessing they're long defunct by now), and the Gun Parts Corp. schematics don't show the ghost-ring sight model. I can order a detent ball from Brownells...if I know the size.

Does anyone happen have an 870/1187P with these sights that could measure the detent ball and it's spring? I was able to rig an elevation tension spring by clipping a few coils from an old hammer strut spring from a 3rd Gen. S&W in order to have the sight maintain it's elevation adjustment...but without the detent, the screw just turns with recoil and the sight adjusts itself.

Thanks!

Nice looking shotty! I suspect that rear sight isunobtainable, and possibly parts. Ya never know what a smith might have in his coffee can of parts though. Have you tried reaching out to a local?

Worst case is you could get a rear sight from LPA - very similar and would likely work and is full adjustable. They have a model that would solder right on.

Let us know!

Unfortunately, the local "gunsmith" scene has gone downhill from years past. Most at the LGS's are guys that bolt together AR's and watch Youtube tutorials for anything else (no thanks...I can do that myself), or the one or two old-school guys have odd shop hours, and even when you call them to verify they're in the shop and then make the 45 minute drive...they're closed when you get there.

I may just order a ball-bearing asst. kit from Amazon and then try and find a tiny spring to work with it...or try and find a few cheap misc. adjustable rear sights on eBay and see if I can luck up and find a detent/spring combo that'll work.
