I have an old 870 Wingmaster, ive owned since a child, and has been with me through thck and thin, 14 years of law enforcement in shit weather, rain, florida hurricanes and so on and its blued finish prevailed with nothing mote than a wipe down.
Now the mystery. I out it in my gun safe 6’weeks ago alomg with several dozen other blued guns and open the safe today to find every other gun in perfect condition with the 870 barrel and receiver looking as though it sat 10 years in salt water with rust pitting so deep its beyond repair. Oddly inside the receiver is perfect, as well ass the bolt and trigger group as new.
First question has anyone seen this? A 65 year old 12 guage autoloader sat right next to it im perfect shape after 7 years in safe, so WTF possibly happened.
2. Being all the rest of the parts less barrel are perfect, what alternative Rem870 receivers will accept the old parts. So i can assemlble another. This was a 2 /4” 18.5” 12 guage. Wingmaster
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Can you post pics?
6 weeks certainly is a short time for rust beyond repair. I don't have any suggestions.
