Remington 870 magnum

Post by Manie247 »

I recently aquired a Remington 870 shotgun. According to the barrel markings in was produced in 1985. Yet the receiver is not stamped with Wingmaster or Express. It only states Remington Model 870 Magnum. The finish seems a very high quality blue and has a chrome bolt and 18 inch barrel. It has a metal trigger guard. I have tried to contact Remington with the serial number, but seems due to new owners they cannot give me more info. It starts with W and ends with M. I am looking for more info as to whether it is a Wingmaster, riot, police etc? If it was produced in 1985 and this quality would it have dimples in magazine tube? The follower inside seems to be metal.

Just take the cap off the magazine tube and drop the barrel off and you can see any dimples if they exist. It is dead simple.

No, it won’t have dimples.

If it's not marked Wingmaster then it isn't a Wingmaster. Remington made lots of models and not every one was a Wingmaster.

By the furniture and markings it looks like a Police model. They did not mark all police magnums as police. There is the "model 870 magnum" and the "870 magnum" that used police unadorned stock with the corncob foreend and metal trigger guard. These should have the upgraded spings and are definitely not express models. They came in deep blued and parkerized Enjoy.

I believe rshooter is entirely correct. It is a plain stock with no checkering and a ring tail forend. This tells me it is a police model.
