Wingmaster fiber optic sight ?

Post by ABL1111 »

Hi. My annual Rem 870 question ( I hunt shotgun 1x a year ).

I hunt white tail and want to change the stock sight on my vintage ( late 1950's ) 870 Wingmaster with a newer rifled barrel ( year unknown on barrel ). I believe the barrel has the stock Remington sights.

I have narrowed my search down to:
Williams #: 056530 ( made for the 870 rifled barrel )
TruGlo # TG110W ( made for remi, but did read on Amazon that some were having issues with having the rear sight fir properly ( hard to tell if it was user error or a bad fit. It was conde3ring because the guy referred to an 'older WIngmaster''

I would like opinions if you have experience with one or both.

Thank you.

I have experience with neither, but I do have a LOT of experience with Amazon reviews. Everyone who purchases something on Amazon will eventually get asked to "review" their item, and they by default become an expert. I also have seen so many reviews that were obviously written by someone who had poor mechanical skills, poor decision making skills, and much more. My opinion? If it's from a reputable company (not from overseas in the East) then you can usually trust the item regardless of the reviews, unless they are overwhelmingly bad.

I also deleted your exact duplicate post in the 'smithing subforum. No need to post the same question in multiple spots.

Both seem like American companies. Surprised there's not more input on this topic. The upgrade to fiber sights for iron sights is a great upgrade in lower light and 'older eyes'.

I take a lot of internet info as a grain of salt unless it comes from a specific reputable person/ site ( that's what I'm asking here )

Thanks for removing the duplicate post - I re-posted in the correct location once I realized it was entered in the wrong place.

Amazon offers a substantial return policy if you don't like them, or if they are flawed. Usually I have several criteria to judge, but there are sooooooo many options for sights that it gets overwhelming, as with any other "tactical" part. If you like them and the price fits your budget, I'd go for it. Sometime you hit a home run, sometimes you live and learn.

Not many options if you want to snap right into existing oem barrel configuration. I’m trying to get opinions from people who have made this switch.

I have the Williams fire sights on a smoothbore 18.5" smoothbore barrel with rifle sights and they are great in low light. I have taken 2 does with them. They are great sights. I now use a rifled cantilever barrel with a Nikon scope and it works way better in my opinion. Shot a buck at 130 yds this year. I've never tried the tru Glo sights but the with the Williams, you can't go wrong.
