Rifled Barrel Shotgun Scope Recommendations

Post by RedSoxFan »

I need a scope on my rifled barrel 12 Gauge. I am in New England where shots rarely exceed 75 yards. What scope currently being made do you guys recommend for deer hunting?

Inside 75 yards means you don't need an uber high mag optic, the bigger question is your local hunting conditions and the need for light gathering. I have a soft spot for this piece of kit, (https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1852194008) which does me well.

I use a Nikon prostaff p3 shotgun 2-7. Little on the pricier side but love it. Couple of my buddies use bushnell shotgun scopes so that's another option though I felt the nikon had better glass

No, but they are still widely available and I've never had an issue with a Nikon scope myself, use them on quite a few rifles.

I am aware they do not but like Scorpion said, I see them everywhere so still worth a look.

I appreciate the Nikon advice, but I've been googling for a couple of weeks, and they seem to not be available. (If anybody can provide a link, I thank you in advance)

I like Nikon glass, and was looking Nikon prior to my inquiry here, which was the reason I asked for a recommendation of a scope currently manufactured in my original post.

I have never scoped a shotgun, and do not have a lot of experiences with scopes, in general (I am mostly a handgun type).

I am concerned a rifle scope will not hold zero on a rifled barrel 12 gauge (Ithaca Deerslayer II). Am I incorrect?

I checked out the scope at midway that Scorpion8 recommended (Thank You), but would like to look at at least one or two more prior to making a purchase.

So, I respectfully ask again, for recommendations of currently produced scopes.

Thank You

You can use a rifle scope for sure. Shotgun scopes are just built with a lot more eye relief. I have a buddy with a scope on his 45-70 so I cant be see shotgun being that much worse
