I recently traded a 1976 built 870 WM in 20 gauge that had a barrel incident, The serial # has a T prefix and ends in X. I sniped a barrel off of Ebay today but it said it was a 3" mag barrel, will there be any problem putting it on a 2 3/4" receiver?
What is the difference between the two receivers/ Will a 3" shell function in a 2 3/4" receiver?
This a very nice Wingmaster I hope the barrel is as nice as the action.

Re: Lg frame 20ga 870 ?'s
I have a 20ga large frame that I got a second barrel for. From my search I think the magnum barrel will fit but I'm not sure if 3" shells will cycle reliably or cycle at all. I did put a 12ga 2-3/4" barrel as a test fit which "worked" but I didn't try cycling any rounds through it.
So, not much help, I guess you'll have to wait and see. I'd be very cautious about running magnum shells through a standard frame.
