Got 2 boxes of this by mistake for an upcoming course. Course requires 50 rds game or bird plus some slug. Already have plenty of slug. Counter sales said this stuff was game load so I assumed it was standard shot. It's not... it's slug. Didn't figure this out until I got home and being ammo I can't return it. In fairness to counter sales, packaging is kind of on the vague side, looks like old stock too.
No biggie, won't go to waste, but is this stuff safe for smooth bore?
Thanks in advance. -YZ

Re: Rio Ammo RLS20 Question
Wow, that is terrible packaging. First off, never seen slugs offered in a box of 25, so I would have assumed it was also shot, altho' no shot pellet size is specified. And oddly, nothing I find online after a short search says rifled or not. Frankly, I'd offer to trade them to a buddy. The HD preppers would probably grab 'em.

Re: Rio Ammo RLS20 Question
I can imagine no safety concern no matter what projectile is used in a smooth barrel.
Why not test and if accuracy meets your needs hold onto them?

Re: Rio Ammo RLS20 Question
That is my main concern. From what I've read so far, it's OK to put pretty much anything through smoothbore but certain slugs shouldn't go through rifled barrels due to potential accuracy issues, not possible "catastrophic stoppage."
Correct?
Another box os shells I had laying around…

Re: Rio Ammo RLS20 Question
I suppose they may have put that label on there to head off inevitable disappointment in performance but I see zero safety concerns shooting anything that fits the gauge and length.
