Revisiting Rem870 Express VS Police

Post by Rich56 »

Last year just before the pandemic I was looking to acquire a additional 870 for my vacation home to be a all purpose SG. Asked options on this forum. I’m Things got turned around when I sold my 870 Big Game for almost 3x what I bought it for to help fund a Harley. That done was looking at 870 Police and Express. Opinions expressed on this forum were very helpful. Ended up going back to my home state, NJ and buying a hardly used late 90s express combo from my brother in-law cheap. Swapped the 28” barrel for a 30” for trap and turkey shoots. Swapped the 20” IC choked rifle sighted barrel for a 18” Remchoke barrel. Spent 2 days total hard use at the range to familiarize, test and break in. First day was bird and buckshot with the 18”. Shot to point of aim within my max defensive distance. The. Shot with the 30” to check POA vs POI. Next day did about 100rnds of backyard trap. 0 malfunctions. Both days ammo was good quality USA. Got to shoot a Wingmaster also. My Conclusion is yes the Wingmaster is pretty and smoother action and trigger. But in field use I didn’t notice the difference when concentrating on targets. If the newer 870s are like my late 90s Express model, I would recommend it for field and HD use.
