870 TX Trap Stock Drop
870 TX Trap Stock Drop
I have a high-comb TX with jacked up socket where it fits into tapered rear of the receiver. Looks like the wood that should mate to recoil plate had been shaved so the edge of the receiver battered and chipped the wood. I'm repairing by installing three stand-offs to fill the void and get the stock back in alignment. Finally, I'll epoxy bed the socket and figure out how to repair the chips.
Anyone know the correct drop at the heel for a straight-comb trap stock? This is not the light colored stock that should have been original, but is a very nice piece of lumber even if damaged.
Thanks,
Chilly
Re: 870 TX Trap Stock Drop
Sad damage, but I suppose if not for stock damage and cut back barrel I'd have not got it for $175 at a gun show, so I love every bit of damage.

Gold pins and triggers, does not have the gold mag cap I've read was part of the TX package. Jewelled bolt.

Shipped the buttstock out for repairs. Can't wait to see how it comes out.
Re: 870 TX Trap Stock Drop
Ouch that looks nasty. Did it have a “Stock Bearing Plate” in it or did somebody leave it out. I’ve read that is the type of damage that tends to happen without the plate.
Hope you can get it fixed up, nice looking wood and great price for the gun.
Re: 870 TX Trap Stock Drop
Had the bearing plate but the "snout" on front of the wrist engages in tapered socket of receiver back end had been shaved short so bearing wasnt doing anything. Being a trap gun, I suspect someone who didnt know what they were doing was trying to play with cast or comb height. Since barrel had been cut free of any choke I suspect trying to lower the comb to use as a field gun? I'll restore it to high-comb dimensions and install a Trijicon RMR. The high comb will be perfect. This will be a turkey gun.
You are correct about a common error. Plastic stocked guns dont use a bearing plate so if one changes to wood it would be an easy mistake.
