What would it take to put a sling on a 870.
What would it take to put a sling on a 870.
This is probably a dumb question but how hard would it be to put a sling on a 870. I have a wood stick so I would I assume I would have to drill out a hole to put a swivel stud. And I know the forend cap can be replaced with one that has one. Where can I find the swivel stud cap and swivel stud kit. How hard would it to be to put a stud on my gun. Sorry if this is a stupid question
Re: What would it take to put a sling on a 870.
The mag tube forend nut with the sling swivel can be had on Remingtons website (or could), on eBay, Amazon, even Alibaba from China. Just check which type of system you have, the plastic-ratcheting system or the ball-detent system. The rear sling swivel is just a small hole drilled in the buttstock, and twisted in. Anybody with some skill and a drill can do it, just make it 3-5" from the end so as not to find a weak area. Lots of videos on YouTube to study.

Ok thanks. I think I’m gonna make a trip to academy or bass pro to get some accessories for my 870. I’m on the fence for a sling. If I do get one it’s gonna be after I put the stick saddle one. Thanks for the advice. Oh yeah the end caps are made for one receiver size or is it specific for each gauge.

They are gauge-specific as the magazine tubes are different sizes.

Thank you. Figured that just thought I’d double check.

Whoa young buck! Before you set to drilling into your stock, know that they make slings that don't require any drilling or sling swivels. Check out the American Sling Company. They have a well thought out product that can accommodate a plain barrel or vented rib and the bottom end slips over the stock and uses plenty of velcro to keep it in place. Won't mar a single thing on the gun, all nylon and heavy duty plastic connectors. I really like the one I got for my 200th Ann. Express and will be getting one for my 1100 20 ga. A non permanent solution that works very well indeed.

Hey Texas Pete.. good recommendation as I was looking for a good sling without marring up my lovely wood stock.
Re: What would it take to put a sling on a 870.
I’ve also looked at those but not a big big fan of the kind that wraps around the barrel. I’m trying to find one that attaches at the end cap with a built in swivel and the wraps around the but stock but I haven’t been able to find one near me or online. Besides my parents sadly don’t let me shop online much. Thanks for the advice although. I’ll definitely keep those in mind. Especially since I put one of those stock loop shell holders on my gun.

This is my current setup, but I want to find a receiver mount that's QD because I'm going back to a wood stock and forend instead of the Magpul set. Going to try this:

or this:

Now I just have to remember how I attached the taclight.
