Fit sling stud to end cap?

This may well be a stupid question but what purpose does the white plastic stud in the end cap serve and can it be replaced with a sling stud similar to the one linked below?

I'm looking to attach a sling to my 28 gauge and figured having a sling stud on the end cap would be the best way to go.

Provides a slick surface, that the magazine spring sits against, to prevent spring from twisting or kinking when end cap is attached or removed.
