Hello,
Just picked up a 1970 Remington 870 Wingmaster. Looking for a replacement barrel but was told the newer model barrels would not fit it.
Is this the case and if so, what should I be looking for?
My original search was for something shorter than the two barrels it brought.
Something to use as home defense. Cylinder bore as I want to load it with slugs.
Thirdly, where should I be looking? as 870 barrels have become as rare as ammo nowadays.
Looking forward to your feedback and suggestions. Thank you

Re: Barrel HELP!
I see some barrels on Gunbroker.com.
If your 870 is 20ga then new barrels won't fit. At that time Remington was using the same 12ga receiver for the 20ga. Somewhere around 1977 they switched to a "Lightweight (LW) receiver" for the 20ga. The older 20ga also used the same barrel ring as the 12ga. The newer barrel rings are too small to fit over the older mag tube.
There are some differences in the cut notches. I don't know enough about that to comment on fitment problems though and how hard/easy it is to make them fit.

Re: Barrel HELP!
Thank you so much for the reply. Mine is a 12 gage for 2 3/4" shells only. Would that still be the case?

Re: Barrel HELP!
Any Remington 12ga barrel fits on any 12ga regardless of year receiver.
