spring loaded follower
spring loaded follower
the old green scattergun technologies follower that came with my police model was beat up and kinda melty from grit and oil I guess so time for a new one. thought I would try this. the tail is spring loaded and pushes in about 1/2". shells run thru the gun perfectly but I haven't shot it yet.

Re: spring loaded follower
Interesting, haven't seen that before.
What's it do? Who makes it?
I've been using the hi-viz fluorescent green followers. No problems so I haven't tried others.

Re: spring loaded follower
The followers with "tails" are supposed to be less prone to canting. However, in all my experience, none of my short followers have ever canted to my knowledge. Plus you do lose some mag tube depth. But if you believe in it, by all means use it. I think my 870 slug-bear gun has a tailed follower because it's what I had on hand. I see now how that spring-loaded portion works, trying to have the best of both worlds -- a non-canting follower that takes up no additional space.

Re: spring loaded follower
I don't see how you can lose capacity if the follower tail does not exceed the total length of the compressed spring coils, to be honest. It's never been an issue in my shotguns. I guess it could be an issue with followers with absurdly long tails like the Choate. I like the fact that this follower is still hollow while sporting a tail, but the retractable aspect of it seems like a solution in search of a problem.

Re: spring loaded follower
you're most likely correct. I didn't bother to check how much space the spring takes up. the tail was about 3/4" extended, surely the spring compressed isn't that long? the spring also goes up inside the fat part quite a bit, the scattergun tech one did not have a recess. all the metal ones cost within a few dollars of each other so what the hell. they put more work into this one than most.
Re: spring loaded follower
I bought some Herter's 2 1/4" buckshot and was able to get 7 in the tube plus 1 in the chamber. they have pretty good reviews.
Re: spring loaded follower
That's good to know, I'd like to try those, but not available around here - nothing is, really. I can get 7 of the normal 2-3/4" shells in my +3 remmy factory extension and the Wilson solid follower, so no loss of rounds. Wonder if I can get 8 in there with the 2-1/4" buck. Best,

I got them from gun broker. price wasn't bad for what's going on now.
