Is it normal on an 870 to have the rounds fail to eject when doing something like say, port loading?
Youll see more often then not when i go to port load the shells hang up. Three different types of rounds did this, 2 high base one low base. They all ejected well with the gun in a typical position. I made a point to slam the action back hard as to make sure theres no short or weak stroking going on.

It seems to me that the ejecting process is very weak even in a normal position. Then make the rounds fight gravity and they just never get out.

Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
I think im abandoning the 870, ill keep it as a backup gun. Way too many problems to trust it. Im thinking 590A1.
Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
Have never tried this... hoping to get out to the range this weekend and i'll see what mine is doing. What sort of condition is your ejector in?
Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
well it seems ok, i took it to the gunsmith and he bent it out a little to try and correct it but it still pushes in all the way as the bolt moves by so i dont see why that would help. I guess maybe he thought it was not all the way against the bolt as it was. Gun has around 600 rounds through it, mostly 00 buck.
Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
I'd check to see how worn the 'hook' part of the extractor is on the bolt.... http://www.rem870.com/2012/10/16/reming ... extractor/ Could be not releasing the brass cleanly.
50 shells (various brands) through mine today working the action with the port face up. Smooth ejection, throwing the shell up about 3 inches, and forward about 6 inches. No jams. Sure, not super strong, but reliable.
I'd try a Non-MIM extractor before writing the gun off
Thanks for the drill practice. Had let myself get rusty!

Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
what an earth are you doing in that video when your pumping the forend back??
Are you trying to look cool or somthing?
The reason you shell is is not ejecting well is your not finishing you pump
you are doing some weird pump fast and let go thing...
Pump it hard and finish, dont let go at the last second, ride the recoil and use it.
You may want to think about taking a class or there on how to use a combat shotgun, this shit will get you killed if you try it for real.

LOL.. Theres always one....
Are you qualified to instruct others? Im assuming youve completed instructor courses from a reputable school to be blurting out random advice. Im diagnosing my shotguns problems. Specifically slamming the action back hard with the port in the up position to recreate the problem.
Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
Easy now chaps. Not the best way of putting your point across bbb!
Still... does a hard stroke all the way back produce the same jams Ken?

Re: Failure to eject when the ports facing up (video)
Yeah no matter how hard i work the action it just kicks the shell harder into the back of the port and then it rattles around in the port.RichNZ wrote:Easy now chaps. Not the best way of putting your point across bbb!

I ordered the non-MIM extractor and if that dosent solve it ill take it to another gunsmith.
