First Time for Everything

Post by Scorpion8 »

Well, always been a big fan of USPS mail service, and can't remember the last time I had any issues with them. Now I've had a package gone missing, 2-1/2 weeks ago. Of course the Priority Mail tracking number says "delivered", but it wasn't delivered to me. We use a PO Box so it's more likely they shoved it into the wrong box and it's gone. My first claim was denied because it says "delivered", but as stated, it wasn't delivered to me. Under appeal now.

Anybody got any good life lessons on USPS claims appeals?

Escalate until you find out what happened. Probably lost in the black hole of the Post Office.

I have always had pretty good service from USPS. In fact, I prefer to use them.

Same here, until now. My experiences with FedEx SurePost or whatever it is that they FedEx your package to the nearest post office and then slow boat it where has been dismal. UPS, FedEx..... no thanks frankly. So am dismayed at this right now.

Well they denied the claim, at first, saying "Oh, it says "delivered, so it was delivered". Now it's been 4 days in first appeal under review. I'm not sure whether I should look favorably upon the extended review period (maybe someone is actually checking or doing something?) or if it's just been lost in the system. They have no more proof that it was delivered than I have proof that I never got it. I don't like their little box of "describe your appeal" and you get 40-characters or something. How can you make a cogent, supportive argument in such a small text box?

Well, good news to follow-up. After the entire cycle of claims, rejected claims, re-applied claims, the USPS finally approved my claim on the last attempt. My unassailable logic was "I can't prove that I didn't receive the package, but neither can you prove that you actually delivered the package". That got 'em! Got my check the other day, so that at least is cleaned up. This current apocalypse event is delaying a lot of parts shipments to my area, since we are entirely dependent upon the mail. But the Mossberg 500 build is back on track and slowly parts are arriving.
