870 Wingmaster Year?

Post by Stevensalyer »

So I recently purchased an 870 Wingmaster and I’m trying to determine the year of manufacture. The letters stamped on the barrel are PU which I will include in my pics. It gives 2 dates of 1971 and 2000. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure from the serial number. If you look at the shell carrier, is there a u-shape cut into the shell carrier or is it solid? I think sometime in the 80s they started putting the u-shape. Hopefully help narrow it down a bit.

I have a 1974 model with a chrome shell lifter - which is different checkering pattern

I have a 1984 model with the checkering pattern as on yours. This one has a Black shell lifter

I have a 2005 model with a different checkering pattern than the other two.

The “W” on your receiver states it was made from 84-89. Double check that barrel code closely to make sure its a “PU”. Is your shell carrier a flex-tab?
Nothing can be an absolute as parts/barrels have been swapped over the years.
