New 870.....Impressed!
Many years ago like a dummy I sold an 870 that I had. I have been on the look out for another one recently. I was in a gun shop last week and they had a new 870 with wood furniture, 18 1/2" barrel and the +2 factory extension for $330. I thought it was a good price and picked it up. I took it out with a variety of ammo (the cheap low brass Federal, Winchester and some 00 Buck). It shot everything without any problems, I was impressed. I have read that some people have had issues with extraction but mine ran perfect.....Happy with my new purchase!

I think most extraction problems are a fault of the shell, not the shotgun. Fact is that shotgun shell brass or steel bases are getting thinner and thinner to keep costs down, which is why high-brass shells are mostly extinct. Lots of what you see as "brass" bases are really color-washed sheet steel, very thin. The extractor sometimes rips away the shell rim, and that's not the gun's fault, but cheap ammo.

Re: New 870.....Impressed!
I purchased an 870 Tactical recently because I wanted the drilled and tapped receiver for optics. The overall function and quality of the gun is outstanding and a pleasure to shoot and hunt with. I just took off the scope and rifled barrel from this past deer season and put the 23" barrel and red dot on it for turkey season. It came with a very nice black synthetic pistol grip stock but I like the fit and look of a tradition stock.

Nice looking shotgun.
I agree with Scorpion most of these extraction issues are overblown. When it does occur I see the same pattern, cheap Wal-Mart steel base shells. Nothing a little chamber polishing and a Volquartsen extractor doesn’t fix.
Interesting thing it never happens in a Wingmaster
