How do you store your HD 870?
How do you store your HD 870? I’m not a believer in the “rack the slide to scare them off” thing. Do you keep the “cocked and locked” or....? Where do you keep yours?

I have read that the 870 is not drop safe. So having on in the chamber even with the safety only keeps the trigger from being pulled. Though if drop just could set the shotgun off. The cruiser ready option seems to be how officers store in there vehicles. Hope this helps.

Yes the video was a big help. I was thinking that racking the slide would give away my position but I’m thinking now it might give somebody a chance to leave. My 870 is not my primary arm. My pistols are. Under dire circumstances the pistol is for untill I get to my shotgun

In proper Cruiser Ready mode, never one in the chamber. It is my understanding that most shotguns are not “drop safe”.

The safety in an 870 just like most shotguns is only a trigger cross bolt safety that blocks the trigger from being pulled. It has no other internal safety. The Remington 870 (just like the Mossberg 500/590 and many others) have inertia driven firing pins and they have no firing pin block safeties.
Not worth the chance. And there is a reason "cruiser ready" is a thing. Probably not due to urban legend.

Mine is stored on the bedroom wall next to the bed in a mossberg lockbox

I store it directly next to my AR next to my bed. Both ready to be used. What that means I think depends on how you traine. If the only training you do is at the range and matches. You always start with load and make ready. That means empty chamber. I run sum local 3 gun matches and when we go hot with all 3 guns and stage them on the range about 30% of people rack out the chambered rounds. Because that is how they have trained.
