What is going on with Remington

Post by shoddymill »

There seems to be something going on with Remington. Last year I ordered a Police Magnum 870 from Davidson's and it was the last one they had and I haven't seen any in stock anywhere ever since.

I have been wanting a Wingmaster for a long time and have been shopping around. I found that Cabelas is sold out and stocks are getting low or sold out elsewhere. I ordered a 28" 20 gauge from Davidson's and it was also the last one they had in stock. It arrived yesterday and it is beautiful, although the paperwork indicates that it is a 2016 model with a 200 year decal and thank you card so it looks like it has been sitting around for a while.

I also got an email about a 25% off shotgun parts sale at Remington. I need a barrel for my 1100 so I thought I would grab one. It seems all of their 1100 barrels are also sold out.

I don't know but it seems like something is up. Could they be getting out of the shotgun business or at least the premium 870 business?

I just ordered a Wingmaster Claro from Bud's while they can still be had.

I can't tell ya for certain based on any factual data, but I doubt Remington would kill off the cash-cow that the 870 is and has been for them. I would guess that there has been a re-prioritizing of manufacturing "priorities" in the wake of the lawsuits and corporate restructuring. Those things never help a company.

I rarely see new Wingmasters in stock. Lots of pretty old ones for same price as a new express. Lots of less pretty Wingmasters for $200 or less. Honestly, I'm surprised they can sell any new Wingmasters.

My hunch is the Express line is the real cash cow for Remington.

That's funny, I have been looking for a couple of years for a good used Wingmater but they just don't seem to exist here in CT and I'm not a fan of gunbroker. I saw one a couple of months ago at Cabelas that was very well used and had almost no bluing left on the receiver with a $650 price tag...

I read that Remington went through bankruptcy last year and they are now owned by JP Morgan and other creditors. Maybe they are draining down their assest in preparing for a sale of the company.
