This is my second treatment. First removed 80% of the finish. This time I keot the stock completely wet with stripper, attending to it continuously, basting it with fresh stripper using a brush and rubbermaid tub. Then scrubbed with scotchbrite pad under warm water rinse. That seems to have done the job.
Didnt like exposing the stock to that much water, especially the forearm, for risk of cracking while drying. But Ive done this before and not broken anything. Instructions have you rinsing in mineral spirits instead of water but sometimes that leeches out a lot of color so I try to avoid that. If you rinse with water pat dry immediately to limit penetration, then air dry naturally and slowly. Drying quickly can induce a crack.
Pro tip: get up early and use the stainless kitchen sink. I didnt get up early enough.
