stuck safety, need HELP

Post by rem870moron »

I bought the youngster an 870 express, polished chamber, installed non-MIM extractor, new magazine follower. went to test fire and after a few rounds in the safety stuck in the fire position, after moving every thing around for a few minutes I got it to function properly. I lubed and then ordered a new Wilson jumbo safety, what went wrong? is it just poor quality?
I am overly concerned that this is for a youth, any HELP would be appreciated!

thanks

I'd suspect more likely it was re-assembled wrong if anything was done inside the trigger assembly. It's possible there may have been a burr in the ball-detent channel on the OEM safety, or dirt/grit. Normally these are easy parts to operate and fairly failsafe, so I'd suggest you clean and lube yours until the replacement safety shows up.

Did you notice any issues with the safety before you modified the gun?

I didn't have any problems before I did the mods, I never removed the trigger group

Take the safety apart, inspect all the pieces. It's possible either the detent ball has a burr, or the detent spring was binding. There are videos on here about replacing the safety with a n after-market one, so the assembly./disassembly procedure is the same. Re-lube and re-assemble yours and test it out thoroughly.

How did you remove the safety if you didn’t remove the trigger group ?

I moved the trigger, safety, slide with my fingers and banged it around against my hands, then it finally moved, I didn’t take anything apart
