Hello all, I've been an avid follower on your forum and have gained a lot of knowledge over time. I own a number of firearms (2 of which are shotguns), my wife and I are both keen sport shooters - nothing too serious, mostly fun, target practice and a yearly competition held by our organisation (NHSA)
Anyway, my first shotgun I purchased was a Benelli Nova Tactical, a great shotgun, I've just recently added a factory magazine extension to it. My second shotgun was a Remington 870 Wingmaster, riot / police model, manufactured in February 1976. I purchased it from a local gun shop and planned on turning it into another home defence shotty, was going to have it duracoated and a few other upgrades. Upon further investigation (purchase was made online) I discovered it was a Wingmaster model, this changed everything. I decided to keep it all original with exception to refinishing the stock and fore-end (corncob) which was looking a bit tired.
I scrapped off the old finish and sanded down the wooden furniture and eventually finished off with rubbing in "boiled linseed oil" - I've applied a number of coats, will continue until I see the wood no longer absorbs the oil. The metal work was just oiled and I used a brass washing up sponge to remove traces of surface rust, there a few places with slight pitting - but I think it all adds character to the old girl.
It's a great forum and I'm happy and proud to be a member.
