I am wondering ....
Is there such a thing as an 870 Police Marine Magnum?
I always thought the Marine Magnums were part of the Special Purpose line and not the Police one.
I have seen it twice now that an 870 Marine Magnum was advertised as a Police model.
Can somebody shed some light here ....

Hi. Yes there is such thing. There is the Special Purpose Marine Magnum which is basically a nickel plated express model with a +2 mag extension. And there is a nickel plated police version which comes with rifle sights, better stock and forend, and a machined extractor. I got a good deal on a new marine express version and added a nickel machined extractor, XS Big Dot front sight, and a Hogue rubberized stock and forend. I love it and works great.faustus wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2017 1:48 pm I am wondering ....

TexasArmor84, thanks for posting those pictures. Looks awesome!
That is what I am looking for .... I would just swap the stock for a beautiful wood stock ... but that is my taste ....
I like those sights .... that seems to be XS sights. Is this standard or an option for the gun?
And I am wondering ... the trigger groups is metal/aluminum on those?

The sights are XS big dots I added I didn't like the small rifle sights with the brass front. Hard to see.faustus wrote:TexasArmor84, thanks for posting those pictures. Looks awesome!

The police marine magnum is an awesome shotgun. I didn’t know at the time that their were two version when I purchased mine. I have the special purpose 870 version which I paid $615 for new. I decided to do a few upgrades to make it closer to the police version. I bought the machine nickel plated extractor which cost $17. I bought the Hogue rubber covered stock and forend for $46. I decided on the xs big dot front sight on my bead only barrel which I think is simpler and more affordable. Sold my stock and forend that came with it for $45 so the Hogue upgrade only cost me $1. I threw in a hi-viz green delrin follower that cost $22. So the whole thing with some upgrades cost me $655. I’d say that’s a pretty good deal and pretty close to the police version.faustus wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2017 12:11 am TexasArmor84, thanks for posting those pictures. Looks awesome!

As for the trigger guard? The special purpose version is polymer and the police version is metal. But it’s not steel. It’s powdered aluminum which is kind of brittle. I wanted the metal guard and I was going to upgrade until a few Remington armorers and shotgun experts recommend I keep the polymer because it’s actually more durable and the finish doesn’t chip. So I decided to save the $95 for a new trigger group.

Re: 870 Police Marine Magnum?
Here's the thing. Generally, with Police vs Express comparisons, it comes down to finish (heavy-duty phosphate vs lighter-duty oxide) & furniture (heavier-duty vs lighter weight). Internal parts differences are minor, and are easily & cheaply changed if desired. Polymer vs powdered aluminum trigger plates - I prefer polymer, some just like having metal, but they both work fine.
With the Police Marine Mag vs the civilian SP Marine Mag, there's no difference in the finish. The furniture is different, but you said you were going to change that anyway, Faustus. Both come with same-length barrels and factory-installed mag extensions. So, the real question here is do you want a front bead sight, or adjustable rifle sights? That'll tell you which one to build on. Don't sweat the other minor stuff, things like extractors & springs are easy to swap later if that matters to you (though I wouldn't assume that the Police versions of everything are automatically best for your own needs).
