Shell won't enter magazine

Post by SGTDAN » Mon Aug 28, 2017 2:21 am

Shotgun is a 20 ga. 870 Express Youth model...several years old in good condition...clean w/o any visible damage or defective parts.

Here is the issue...load two or three shells into the magazine...cycle all of them out of the magazine and through the action. With the action closed, it is impossible to get a fresh shell into the magazine...shell follower sticks in the magazine making it difficult to get a shell in without exerting a lot of finger pressure on the shell. It doesn't do this all of the time. The factory follower was replaced with the green synthetic follower from Brownell's when this issue started, yet it did not help.

This issue is taking place with a pair of these 870's that are the same age and used for hunter safety classes for young boys/girls in our area. It doesn't matter if dummy or live ammo is used.

Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks in advance.

Have you ever removed the spring, follower and scrubbed the magazine tube with solvent and a brush? It may have a buildup of oil, rust, dirt and powder fowling causing it to stick.
