870 Stock Question

Post by pepper »

New member here with a quick question ...

I purchased a synthetic stock from ebay for my 870 express. I also bought a supercell pad for it on ebay as well. The packaging for the recoil pad has model number 19472, but the actual pad has 301519 stamped on it. Unfortunately it doesn't fit.

Can someone tell me which supercell pad fits this stock. There are no numbers on it, but I'm guessing it's a police model. Will the F301525 recoil pad fit? Here are the dimensions of the bottom of the stock: 4 5/8 long, 1 9/16 wide (at the widest point), and the screw holes are 3 1/8 apart.

I know that there are two different supercell pads one for the wood stock and one for the synthetic. Usually when ordering it tells you which one it will fit

That's the one I have: 19472 (REMINGTON SUPERCELL RECOIL PAD FOR SYNTHETIC STOCK SHOTGUNS). Unfortunately, it is too big. I'm wondering if I happen to have a police stock which evidently has a different recoil pad number: F301525 (870 POLICE SUPERCELL RECOIL PAD, SPEEDFEED STOCKS). I guess I could always order it and send it back if it doesn't fit. Was hoping to avoid wasting money on shipping both ways though. Maybe someone has been through this before.

The #F301519 SuperCell is for the lightweight Express-style synthetic stocks. They have a stepped down portion to fit into the hollow butt of those stocks:

The stock you have is a heavier Police or old-style synthetic stock with more meat inside. It requires a pad with a flat bottom, similar to what would go on a wood stock. The SuperCells meant for the SpeedFeed stocks may have the right profile, but I can't say for sure. You could also ask about the F301523 & F301527 pads, those are marked as being for LE stocks in my 2014 parts list.

It'll be worth it to figure it out though; SuperCell pads are excellent.

Here are a few more photos that I should have taken for my original post. Two of them show my synthetic stock next to my crappy laminate stock. You can see that they are the same size. The third one shows the butt end of my synthetic stock. The pad on the right is the one that came with it. The one on the left is the supercell pad for synthetic stocks that doesn't fit. Obviously they are quite different. Any ideas what my stock is and if there is a supercell made to fit it? I may just end up buying a new synthetic stock that includes the pad, but I really like the way this one looks with the gold logo on the grip cap.

EDITED: I realized that the images were really large ... sorry about that.

Thanks again for all the help.

In case anyone is interested, I received a reply from Remington. Evidently my stock was manufactured before 2003, and there is no supercell pad which will fit it.

Does your synthetic stock have the same hole pattern as your laminate stock?
