Re: Levee rat
Welcome to the forum.
I've long had an interest in the Atchafalaya River, as it's poised to become the future path the Mississippi takes to the sea - in spite of our best efforts. However, I've remained at a loss as to how the heck "Atchafalaya" is pronounced. Maybe you can give me a hand with that.

Ah cha fah lie ya. Nothing to it. Yes,, eventually that will be the new misipi river. Theres alot of history in my small town. The old atchafalaya valley you can still tell was the river hundreds of yrs ago. Several small manmade oxbows have been made to prevent the nighty misipi from diverting, but with the natural silting and flooding, one day its going to happen. They come within a mile of touching, and there is a set of 3 locks there to keep them apart. DurIng the floods the water is. So rough there we always lose a commercial fisher or two trying to shad dip
