New member from Flagstaff

Post by Timex »

Hello from Flagstaff. Still have my 12 gauge Wingmaster from 1969. Recently purchased a new 20 gauge Wingmaster and love it. Thinking about adding a 28 gauge. They seem very hard to find. Intended use is for small game. Not a replacement for my 20 or 12 gauges. I have read almost every review on the 28 gauge I can find. Any one out there own one and would like to share their comments?

Don't own one, but my two cents would be that anything a 28ga shell can do, a 20ga shell can also do (and usually a little better). Regarding 870s, both are built on the same size receiver and have the same stocks, so handling will not be much - if at all - different. Remington lists the 28ga Wingmaster (25" barrel) at 6 pounds, and the 20ga Wingmaster (26" barrel) at 6 1/8 pounds. Don't know what barrel your 20ga has, but even if it's longer, or you care about 2 ounces, a short barrel for your 20ga would be a lot less expensive than a 28ga Wingmaster. I like the little 28ga, it can make for dandy little hunting guns when they're actually scaled down for it, but in the 870, there's little to no advantage to it over the 20ga models.
