Extractor question

Post by Marc »

I have a 1994 or 97 model 870 Express magnum combo that I recently purchased from my father in-law dirt cheap. It's brand and new never been fired..!
I know...lucky me...... Wished he would have saved the original box.

Any how, this appears in every way to have the better mim extractor. Thought all expresses had non-mim style..?
Were there certain years or model that used the cheaper extractor..?

This gun also has the barrel ball detent locking system.

I upgraded the follower to a metal Teflon coated unit, and change the carrier dog spring and magazine spring to the police version.

I've learned a bunch on this web site so far......Thanks....Marc

Older Expresses used the old-style machined extractors, newer Expresses (and now pretty much all civilian 870s) use the new-style MIM extractors. Both are good parts that work reliably. Unless you're having extraction problems that can actually be traced to your extractor (the extractor gets incorrectly blamed for a lot of common malfunctions that are caused by other issues), I wouldn't bother messing with it.

If you're not sure what you have, look for the gate mark, a raised bit of metal on the outside face of the extractor:

This indicates a MIM extractor.
