This website and forum have been a wealth of information both post purchase and now as a happy owner. I'm a pistol shooter myself but my father is a bit of a gun-a-phobic. In spite of this he has expressed a desire to have a 12 gauge around the house for when I'm 3000 miles away since I own all of the firearms. I saw the 870 on sale for Black Friday and decided it would make the perfect bonding firearm and hopefully family heirloom. It wasn't until I got the gun home that I realized they had given me the 870 Express Synthetic 7rd model for the price of the regular 4+1. I will be giving my father a list of upgrades, most from this very site to purchase in early ownership (non MIM extractor, S&J follower, carrier latch spring, perhaps the nordic components spring). Meanwhile I've added a few upgrades of my own bringing the current total to $375 (Remington Supercell and Scattergun OS safety not pictured) which is less than half of where I would be had I bought the Magpul Tactical and I have the stock components for resale. Said and done I hope to be around $500 with close to 870P reliability and none of the tacticool extras.
