shell lifter not functioning ?

Post by smpolo »

hi, I'm new to the forum and need some help, I have an older 870, 2000 (?) it is a "Special Purpose" 3" police version and after cleaning and reassembling it this past time my shell is not being released from the tube and the lifter is no longer "lifting" the shell in place? Had the gun for years and it is my most reliable/favorite shotgun however, I am at a bit of a loss as to what is going on? the spring is fine? any suggestions for troubleshooting this?

Are you sure you put it together properly? If you put the action bars in the wrong way, it can screw with shell latch function. As for the carrier, I'd pull out your trigger plate assembly and make sure your carrier dog and slide assembly are interacting as they should be.

Thanks for the reply Synchronizor, I did not change the sides/locations or configuration of the bars when I slid them back in? Is there a way that I am not re-setting or positioning a piece correctly when I am sliding these back in? I have had this apart multiple times and never run into this before? The latch is not releasing a shell and the lifter is not moving? Is there a video I can reference to make sure the carrier dog and slide are working together properly? Frustrating ..... (also, forgive me for any inadvertent mistakes on this Forum, I have never used an online discussion forum before) regards, Steve

You can refer to my take-down & reassembly video, it shows how to properly re-insert the action bars and inspect the trigger plate assembly. There are timecodes in the video description if you just want to jump to the relevant parts without watching the entire thing.
