Parkerized Mag Extensions

Post by jough »

I have an 870 Police, which is Parkerized. Besides Remington, who makes a +2 (7 total) Parkerized mag extension to match the Police model?

I'm really happy with my Nordic Components +3 mag extension. It matches up with my parkerized 870P very well. It is CNC-machined from aluminum.

The ATI aluminum +2 extension is a pretty close match to the 870 Police parkerized barrels color. A little darker than the parkerized grey. The extension comes with a spring and I added a S & J follower. Works great, no problems after 50 rounds.

Aluminum can't be Parkerized, so if that's the finish you want, you'll have to look at steel extensions. If you don't like the two-piece Remington extensions, Wilson Combat and S&J Hardware offer single-piece steel extensions with Parkerized finishes.

Be aware though, that the appearance of Parkerizing can vary quite a bit depending on the exact processes and chemicals used. If you want the best visual match to your 870P, you'd probably be best off getting a factory extension kit.

Well, I already have the factory +2 Remington extension.
I have two problems with it.
1. After about 30 rounds, the nut was pretty loose.
2. I can't seem to fit seven 2-3/4" shells in the tube. I can get 6. I think I got 7 once.

I like the Remington clamp, but my Elzetta light mount also serves as a stabilizer to protect the tube.

Are you sure you have the extension installed correctly? Remington extensions are pretty good, but you do have to know how to put them on correctly. This thread might help you out.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I installed it correctly. To make sure, I watched the video and re-installed it. Same result...6 rounds in the tube. Perhaps it is my ammo. I'm using Rio 00 Buck, which measures about 2.510" long. I understand most 2-3/4" shells are 2-1/4" before firing and 2-3/4" after firing.

Wait, you have a +2 extension, right? You should only be able to fit 6 rounds in there anyway. 4 + 2 = 6.

Mine is advertised as a 5+1 with 2-3/4" shells. It is a Remington 24449.
If I am mistaken, then please show me that it is 4+1 with 2-3/4" shells.

The #24449 is a standard 870P synthetic model. All standard 870s have 4-round base magazine tubes, so without an extension, the capacity would be 4+1, or five total. Adding a +2 magazine extension brings that up to 6+1, or seven total.

The posting you linked is simply wrong. Some specialized or custom 870s have 2-, 3-, or 6-round magazine tubes, but you'll only find 5-round magazine tubes on 870 clones like the H&R Pardner Pump.
