Installing Hogue Overmolded Buttstock (Rem. 870)

Post by aegusto »

Just bought a Hogue OM stock with 12" LOP. When installing, I discovered it would not fit properly over the stock bearing plate. Nothing mentioned about this in the installation instructions. Hogue stock fits fine when the stock bearing plate is omitted.

Is this a problem, or is the plate intended only for use with the factory wood stock? I hate to have parts left over when I reassemble a gun!

Here's an exploded diagram showing the stock bearing plate (Remington's term):

I believe the plate is a buffer to keep the wood from chipping. You don't need it with the new stock.

Kentactic is right, you don't need it for Hogue stock.

Thanks guys! Now I'll go shoot it without worrying whether the stock will blow up!
