question

Post by timriley0927 »

i am new to the shotgun world and i bought a hunting rem 870 for 200 bucks and it came with two barrels. one was a longer barrel with a mod choke and the other was a shorter smooth bore barrel with rifle sights the owner said is was a slug barrel. my question is can i shoot buckshot/target load in the shorter slug barrel.

Target loads with lead birdshot can be fired through any choke, and most slugs and buckshot can be safely fired through Modified or lighter chokes. Smoothbore slug barrels usually have IC or lighter chokes, so you should be fine. If you want to be sure, check the barrel to see what constriction it has, and then when you're buying ammo, look for warnings or recommendations on the packaging.
