870 express

Post by ketch »

Hi all,

Just a quick question on the 870 express. Does Remington still make the basic 870 synthetic express for 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells or do they only make the super mag that can take up to 3 1/2 inch shells. I can only find the super mag on the web site but their catalog still shows the basic 870.

A follow up question. I see where the super mag does not have a stud for a sling on the stock. Can one be added aftermarket?

Thanks

Remington doesn't do a very good job of keeping their website up to date. You should have no problems finding a synthetic Express Magnum in your area. If nothing else, basic synthetic 870 furniture is readily available used, many people buy synthetic 870 models and immediately swap the factory stock and fore-end out for something different.

I'd say avoid the SuperMag models unless you specifically need to shoot 3.5" shells (and with modern ammunition, you probably don't). The 3.5" 870s are more complicated, give you less options for customization, and don't enjoy the same parts interchangeability and availability 3" guns do.

If you're referring to this picture:

Yes, you can install a sling stud in that stock. However, I'm not sure Remington's still using that style of stock anymore (again, their website isn't maintained very well). The synthetic stocks I've seen lately are a different design, with an integral sling stud molded into the plastic.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was hoping the answers would be.
