I did a package deal with S&J - detachable shell holder, jumbo safety, and their hi-vis delrin follower. All great stuff. As for the shell holder, very very happy with it. I've shot close to 1,000 rounds with that shell holder seeing a lot of use. No complaints whatsoever.

Yes the S & J and thanks for the info. Chief Brody I really like your shotgun it's why Iam looking into this product and is the nicest shotgun I've seen.

I have not gotten anywhere near as much use as the folks who posted, but I am very happy with my S&J shell holder [a 4 shot model] installed on my old knock-around Pontiac, MI Smith and Wesson/ Howa riot gun from the early 1980s. There are very few parts out there for the 3000 series, so the S&J worked great.

I do use the "Type 2" no-jam Delrin magazine tube follower in my Remington 870 shotgun. A much nicer piece than the flimsy stock gray unit that it replaced.

Yes Vitaly I've seen these but only seen negative reviews on the van comps. I like the detachable shell holder adds less weight than aluminum or plastic

Condor ( http://www.tacgearstore.com ) got together with Roman Tactical a while back and engineered a complete shell carrying system strictly for shotgunners. Its all done with hook and loop tape like those mentioned above and fits into a standard M4 mag pouch. Look in the Tactical Miscellanious section and you will find it there.

To be fair, the weight of a loaded sidesaddle is mostly due to the shells, not the carrier itself. A fabric sidesaddle might save you a few ounces over a rigid one, but noticing the difference on the receiver of a gun as solidly-built as the 870 would be tough even before loading it with shells that weigh 1.5-2.5 ounces each.

The bigger advantage of the removable, Velcro-backed sidesaddles over rigid ones is their modularity. They can be ripped off and slapped on very quickly, installed wherever there's a place to attach the Velcro tape, and additional filled carriers can be kept loaded and carried on a vest or in a pouch, ready to go.

I like the idea with the Vang Comp Velcro sidesaddle for folks who don't want to apply the Velcro tape directly to the receiver, but the price just kills it. $60-$80 extra is way too much to pay for a simple aluminum plate and a pair of fasteners. You could get the same thing by purchasing a $20-$30 TacStar sidesaddle and installing the aluminum baseplate without the plastic shell carrier.

Eventually, when I have time, money, and access to the proper equipment, I want to put together this kind of system for my gun with 8-round fabric carriers and a custom baseplate.
