forend side to side movement

I am in the process of my first 870 build. An old express to a hd. I am using all the suggestions and info from the readers and writers of this website. I am trying to utilize the original forend. I shortened it and put grooves in it like the cobb style. I then stripped and stained it black. It is slick looking. I have a black sga stock coming and I am painting the metal dark earth. The problem is that there is slop in the forend. It isnt the nut. There seems to be a gap on either side of the action bars where they meet the wood. I was thinking about shimming it or maybe bending the bars out as long as they are straight the rest of the way I would love any advice. This is my first post. Thanks to all involved in creating this site it is incredible.

Exactly how much slop does the fore-end have? And is the fore-end itself moving relative to the tube assembly & action bars? A little side-to-side freedom is normal for the fore-end assembly as a whole, and ensures that the action bars move freely inside the receiver.

I wouldn't recommend bending your action bars out unless they've been damaged previously. They need to be straight, and a specific distance apart in order to feed into their slots in the receiver and function properly with the components inside.

Can you upload some images of your fore-end assembly, showing off where you think the problem is?

THe bars are perfectly straight right now. The inside of the forend is in relatively perfect shape also. I would say that I can twist it about3/8 each way You can see that there is room to the right and left of the action bars between the wood. I will get some pics. of the whole job soon. having some technical diff. with my camera. Thx.
