As far as I know, all factory wood stocks used bearing plates. You can order these from Remington (especially if you're ordering other parts anyway), or you can check your local gunsmiths and see if they have any lying around. That's how I got the bearing plate for my Police stock.

I want to say up until 1963 (when they changed to fleur de lis checkering) They didnt have bearing plates. Remington started using bearing plates to stop stocks from cracking. That being said, I would remove some material from the front of the stock and install one (they will not fit without removing wood). I have done it to the two I own to prevent cracking. Its a pretty easy job with a coarse file or a belt sander. Good Luck!
