how many different express synthetic tactical models
sorry for the silly question figured id make my first post here memorable lol.. so ive owned a 870 super express mossy oak breakup for my hunting.. and always wanted to build a home defense gun.. and love shooting shotguns for some reason...
anyways i went the other day and purchased an 870 express hd brand new, i new what i wanted to start with.. so i wasn't paying attention well i get home and it the 870 express synthetic tactical, but i cant find a bit of info on it, not even on remingtons website, it has a one piece tube which holds 7, and the 18" smooth bore barrel with bead sight, now i got a heck of a deal on it so im happy and dont need a mag extension anymore... anyways i was curious to how many different models were made in the tactical series and were i could find all the specs on mine.. once again sorry if this is a bad question... cant wait for all my parts to come in to finish building...

Re: how many different express synthetic tactical models
The basic 870 Express Tactical with the 18.5" bead-sight barrel and one-piece 6-round magazine tube is an update to their #25077 Express synthetic 7-round model. It's on their website, just with an old picture. Actually, it was an old picture even before they switched to the single-piece magazine tube in 2012 or so. They've recently added a note to the model's description. A new picture would be nice, but Remington's website has never been a very complete or up-to-date source of information.

Not a silly question at all Florida. No quest for information is silly.
Congradulations on the new 870 Tactical. I have one and I love it. Being the factory 7 shot is a plus because we don't need to shell out and modify for an extension. That was the biggest selling feature for me in my purchase. All I have done to it as far as building is add a couple of shell carriers - a California Competition cuff on the butt and a Mesa Tactical with rail on the receiver. I also have a home-made sling. I will add a flashlight in the future. That will be the extent of the additional "Tacti-cool" parts for me. Simple and unemcumbered.
As far as your question about how many different models: 2 - the one you and I have and the Magpul model. I say this for the prime rerason of the barrel. Only one other barrel will fit your shotgun because of the placement of the ring. All other 870 12 gauge barrels will not fit. The only differences in our barrels compared to the one on the Magpul is the Magpul is drilled to accept a choke, coming with the breeching adapter, and it also has a front rifle sight where ours has a bead sight. Other differences in the Magpul include the furniture, of course, the receiver is drilled and a rail is mounted, and the Ceracote finish.
Remington does offer a few other models in thier "Tactical" line, but they all have the standard 4 + 1 loadout with factory installed extensions, making the barrel interchangeable with vitually every other Remington 12 gauge barrel on the market.
We would love to see some pics of your build in progress, so post them up when you can.

Re: how many different express synthetic tactical models
Thanks for the info.. Its definitely a nice feature.. Saves me from going to get an extension.. I got some basic internal upgrades coming, and a ati stock and grip set.. I appreciate the response and information...

I like the look and function of their Akita line. I'm not a fan of the pistol grip a lot of other shooters are fond of. If I have to use the stock as a weapon to cross somebody's chin with, I don't have to reposition my grip before and after the strike. Have been looking at these for Gypsy's 20 gauge.

Re: how many different express synthetic tactical models
i do like the stock without the pistol grips but since i already have a express super mag i figure what the heck and make a good looking and functional defense gun, but still be able to go out to the farm and have a lil fun with it... i like thats its adjustable so the wife can shoot it comfortably also.. got my first round of parts in and all i gotta say is brownells is amazingly fast at processing and shipping, doing a good cleaning, a lil polishing and installing the upgraded follower, speed safety, extractor and carrier spring...

Re: how many different express synthetic tactical models
There is a third 870 model with the long mag tube, the 81404 Express Tactical BLACKHAWK!, which uses the same fixed-choke bead-sight barrel as the 25077 model. However, I'm not sure the BLACKHAWK! 870 is offered anymore, possibly due to the recall on that stock.Zebra62 wrote:As far as your question about how many different models: 2 - the one you and I have and the Magpul model. Yeah I'm seeing and hearing a lot of bad things with that stock.. I guess it will eat up your cheek due to the angle it slides back with their recoil system...

Re: how many different express synthetic tactical models
looks like this front bead on this one is pressed in cause it dont move... so much for a cheap screw in sight
Re: how many different express synthetic tactical models
Yep, there is that one I missed. I put in a request with Remington not too long ago asking about how many different barrels would interchange and they only identified the barrrel on the Magpul edition, so I completely forgot about the Blackhawk edition. They did say "possibly more barrels in the future."There is a third 870 model with the long mag tube, the 81404 Express Tactical BLACKHAWK!
