Hi:
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I could not find it.
Just bought an 870 Express Tactical & I have a question about cleaning, specifically barrel removal: although not mentioned in the instruction book, it appears that the magazine extension must be removed in order to remove the barrel. In order to do that, the clamp must be removed, correct? Can't see doing that too many times before the finish on the barrel & the extension is ruined.
How do you guys do this??? Have no problem installing a different clamp, but I would like to keep the sling swivel..........
Thanks,
Don

Watch the video on the link. The only difference might be if you have a extension on your magazine tube with the clamp on it. I wouldn't worry too much about scaring it up.
Also, I don't remove my bolt everytime I clean my 870, I just run a swab down the barrel and wipe it down most of the time.

Remove the magazine/barrel clamping screw. The clamp has some spring to it and should spread apart enough for you to carefully slide it of the end without damaging the finish of either the barrel or magazine tube.

It's not that difficult; just take the screw all the way out, and the clamp should slide off pretty easily. If you need to, just use your fingers to pull it open a little further.dtjacob wrote:I will try to CAREFULLY remove the clamp......
This will prevent scratches between the muzzle & the clamp's installed location, but you're eventually going to see the finish under the clamp start rubbing off as it flexes during installation & removal, and also as things shift around under recoil. This isn't much of a cosmetic issue, since the clamp covers it up when installed, but it can be a corrosion risk if you get caught in the rain or something, and water gets under the clamp. To help protect that spot, wipe on a thin coat of oil before installing the clamp, and don't give water a chance to sit under there if your gun gets really wet.

Hi:
That should work just fine, as long as I'm careful with it.......
Unfortunately, it will be Sunday before I can get it cleaned up due to working a 12hr. night shift the next 4 nights.......
Thanks,
Don
