Brown box 00Buck
Brown box 00Buck
I was poking around one of the local sporting goods shops and saw boxes of 00b manufactured by Olin. 5 shots are priced right at 5 bucks making it slightly cheaper that Remington's version and pretty spendy compared to Royal Buck's 00b.
The box reminds me of an old c-ration box; paper bag-brown with black lettering.
Anyone use this? Pluses or minuses?

Sounds like the Winchester Military Grade 00B, are the shells green with black bases? I personally haven't shot them but can tell you what I've read. General opinion is that it's good 00B, but nothing special. I've seen threads about them being compared to Win's other 00B rounds and it turns out they're the exact same shells in a different wrapper basically. Not bad, not top of the line, either.

*headdesk*
I just spent an hour or two typing an essay, and the site logged me out and deleted it when I hit "submit"
...@*&%#$$*@&*#$ #*$@ on my @#$*...
Here're the cliff notes:
> Unplated shot, buffered, cardboard gas seal, no shot cup. Typical lowest-bidder military product.
> It's exactly the same ammo as Winchester's bottom-end Super-X buckshot except for the hull colors.
> I found some on sale once and bought a few boxes.
> (nerdy tangent) A lot of ammo marked "00B" is actually loaded with 0B pellets, but that's not a big deal.
> I did a little comparative pattern testing versus some cheap commercial buckshot. It was better than some, worse than others, nothing special.
> If you want to see the targets from said testing, I can try to find them.
> The budget commercial buckshot I buy locally works better, and is cheaper than the military stuff.
> If there's another buffered 00B load available in your area for less, there's not much reason to pay for the military stuff (unless you really like the color).
If you want further details, let me know.

BTW, I saw 25 round boxes of the WIN Military 00B at Wal-Mart this weekend for $23.

I've shot a bunch of it, goes 'bang' every time, the criminal breaking into my house won't like it at all. It patterned 8 out of nine pellets in a silhouette from 20 yards, works for me.

It works just fine! My shotgun bug out bag kept next to my bed is full of it. Patterns well in all my HD/SHTF 870's as well. Predators of the two legged variety will not care to wear much of it!! I got a sweet deal on a couple of cases of it a few years ago and haven't been disappointed in my purchase. Matter of fact...my old Milt Sparks 4-round leather belt slide shell carrier keeps those loads in it. I also like the OD green hull color too!!:-)

I picked some up today for $3.50 for 5.
