Fully-loaded, that thing's going to be front-heavy enough. Do you really want to add a full-length rail to that?NTA_Shawn wrote:I just put on a 10rd Choate extension on my 27" 870. I had to cut off about 9" from the spring for it to get full capacity. Also sanded the follower with some 200 grit sand paper to smooth it up. The clamp seems ok, but have yet to shoot it with it on. I am already looking at getting a rail system to replace it. But its tough finding a rail for a 27" barrel that will go the length of the barrel.

Ya, that shit would weigh like 15 lbs atleast. Not practical at all.
Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
I didn't think much about the weight. My buddy has a full length rail on his. Im going to see how heavy it is before I get onee for mine.

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
New to the 870 shotgun. I purchased an 870 Police with 18" barrel. From what I have seen, the Remington +2 extension is an exact flush fit, and the +3 extension extends a little. I have also looked into some of the "tactical" chokes (Remington and others), and wonder if the +3 might be the overall best choice. Extra round, only slightly extended past 18" barrel, and probably close to flush if using a tactical choke.
Any experience with the Remington +2 or +3 extensions with or without choke. Looking at the parkerized version for looks with 870P.
Thanks!

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
I'm a huge fan of the Remington extensions; I think they're the best on the market for a combat shotgun.
There's a thread here with some pictures of Remington +2 & +3 extensions installed on an 870 with an 18.5" barrel. The Remington +2 extension will end flush with the muzzle of an 18.5" barrel, and the +3 will line up with a 20.5" barrel. Remington's breacher choke adds about 2" to the overall barrel length. You can put a +3 extension under an 18" barrel, but you'll most likely have to use an aftermarket clamp. The factory bracket can only be installed at the notch near the end of the extension tube. With an 18.5" barrel, the bracket on a +3 has just enough room to clamp onto the end of the barrel; but with an 18" barrel, it'll be hanging about half-off the end. You won't be able to install a breacher choke with that in the way, not to mention shooting it like that is probably going to screw something up.

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
Hey thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about the support clamp being an issue. I do like the way the +2 extension looks on the gun and the parkerized finish matches up well with the 870P. I think that's the way I am going to go. 6 rounds in the magazine tube and 6 rounds in the side saddle. If I can't get the job done with 12 rounds, I probably don't need a shotgun. Assuming the Remington support clamp is a good product and fit?
I've heard that the Remington follower could be improved. Looking at GG&G's follower and side saddle.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
Speaking of the Remington +3 parkerized, can anyone clear up the part number. I checked on the parts list at Remington's web site and there are a couple of numbers seemingly for this part. I'm just not sure which one it is.
F30990 Extension Tube Only 20" (no info if its blued or parkerized)
F29765 Extension Tube Assembly 20" Parkerized (what constitutes an "assembly" with this part?)

Re: Magazine Extensions for Remington 870
The 30993 part should be oxide-finished, and the 29765 should be the parkerized one. I couldn't find my old packing slip from when I ordered my +3 tube, but that's what I have written in my notebook. If you want to be sure you're ordering the Parkerized one, just confirm it with the operator.

Looks great! Nice and even with the breacher on it.
