870 police with:
Sga stock
Moe forend
Gg&g side saddle
Nordic plus 2
Magpul clamp
Nordic spring and follower
Wilson safety
Xs big dot sight

Not pictured:
Streamlight Tlr3 in magpul cantilever mount (I love this setup)
Sga sling plate

I ran this at a police competition. It got completely trashed due to the dirt and still ran like a champ.

That looks awesome. I'm guessing you've had the whole gun cerakoted in that finish, right? Looks really neat. Great stuff!

Remington Wingmaster 870 Police models

Post by tdhoneycutt »

I have been fortunate to find two different versions of the Remington Wingmaster 870 Police models (pictured).
The regular stocked shotgun I purchased in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The folding stock version I found online and purchased the shotgun (with original box) from a man in Georgia.
These police models are different slightly from the 870 Express models with tactical furniture.
My apologies I cannot get the rotation correct on the photo.

Those old-school folding stocks definitely have cool points, but how are they to shoot? Metal against the cheek and shoulder sounds like a bad way to take 12ga recoil.

How well do the S&J bayonet lugs preform (with 2 piece mag extension? My understanding is the bracket helps keep the mag extension from twisting loose as well as renforce the tube from bending from where the threads connect, is this correct? Does it work as well/same/better than the factory bracket?

I've used an S&J bayonet lug with the factory Remington +2 and +3 extensions, and it works well. It lets you attach a bayonet, and works to keep the extension together under recoil.

The only issue I've noticed with this combination is that while the mount stays put just fine on its own, with my bayonet (a late-style OKC M9) fixed, the extra inertia will make the mount walk forward under recoil. The original military bayonet lugs locked into the grove on the extension tube to stay put, but the S&J ones don't, since they're also designed to work with extensions that don't feature that groove. The movement is just a tiny bit per shot though, so while the bayonet will be able to rattle around a little, it is still securely held in place, and perfectly capable of stabbing things. You'd probably have to let off hundreds of shells before the mounting ring on the knife's guard even comes close to slipping off the front of the extension, and that's just not happening in any realistic combat/defensive scenario.

Grandfather and Grandson, a 1909 built Remington Model 10 and a rebuilt 870 [it was a VERY neglected/abused gun]

I just picked these two old police wingmasters up. I'm going to be using the one with rifle sights as a platform for a home defense build. Flex tab kit and new springs on the way. Trying to decide between parkerizing and cerakote for a finish.
